  • Brett is the UK’s largest independently owned building materials group, employing over 700 people across more than 60 sites throughout the South East, South, East and Midlands.

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Transport Manager to lead and develop our aggregate and asphalt transport operations across Southern England, covering Kent, Sussex and Hampshire.

Reporting to the Head of Transport, this key role will be based at Faversham, with regular travel to operational sites, customer locations and partner hauliers. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of our transport activities, while driving continuous improvement across fleet utilisation, operational performance and customer service.

    About Your Role
As Transport Manager, you will be responsible for the operational management of both internal and external transport resources, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance and efficiency are maintained.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • Leading and promoting a strong health and safety culture across all transport activities, ensuring safe systems of work are embedded and consistently followed.
    • Managing the Company's vehicle fleet to maximise utilisation, minimise downtime and ensure optimum operational performance.
    • Leading, motivating and developing the driver workforce, including recruitment, performance management and succession planning.
    • Working closely with the Driver Trainer to monitor, assess and improve driver performance and standards.
    • Acting as the nominated Transport Manager on relevant Operator Licences and ensuring full compliance with all operator licensing, driver and vehicle legislation.
    • Driving cost-effective fleet operations through the effective management of controllable costs and transport resources.
    • Reviewing transport planning activities daily to ensure efficient vehicle scheduling, route optimisation and maximum fleet utilisation.
    • Producing and analysing transport performance data and KPIs, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
    • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, service performance and profitability.
    • Supporting the wider transport function through participation in out-of-hours management cover, including weekends and nights when required.
    • Exploring opportunities to secure third-party haulage work, reducing empty running and improving revenue generation.

    We're Looking For
You will be an experienced transport professional with a proven track record of managing fleet operations within a fast-paced operational environment.   You will also have:
    • Experience managing both internal and subcontracted transport fleets, ideally within the aggregates, asphalt, construction materials or related sectors.
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and develop teams while driving high performance.
    • A proactive and hands-on management style, with confidence to challenge existing practices and implement positive change.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
    • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance operational performance, customer service and cost control.
    • Good IT skills, with experience of transport planning, routing, fleet management or traffic management systems being advantageous.
    • A self-motivated approach, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
    • Transport Manager CPC (National or International) is essential.
    • Demonstrable knowledge of transport legislation, operator licensing and fleet compliance requirements.
    • Full UK driving licence.
