  • Are you looking to develop a career in the environment and sustainability field? We’re currently looking for someone with the energy, dedication and desire to learn to join our Environment and Sustainability department on a full-time, permanent basis in our Canterbury Head office. Some travel will be required across our 60 site locations.

     

    As an Environment and Sustainability Advisor, you’ll be responsible for managing the measurement and presentation of environmental and sustainability risk and performance, compliance within environmental legislation, permits and group procedures.

     

    This is an exciting role providing the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge directly supporting our Group Environment and Sustainability Manager on an array of different tasks across our businesses.

     

     

    What you’ll do as an Environment and Sustainability Advisor

      

    • Manage the identification, measurement and presentation of environment and sustainability risks and performance;

       

    • ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, Group procedures and relevant sustainability and environmental standards;
    • support development, remediation and permitting projects from application through to closure;
    • assist the SHE Department with investigations, audits and compliance assurance activities;
    • propose and implement initiatives that improve environmental and sustainability performance and reduce associated risk;
    • Ensure sustainability reporting requirements (e.g., ESOS, SECR, Climate Change Adaptation) are met and support businesses in capturing the data needed for effective strategy, decision-making and performance improvement;
    • Keep up to date with evolving sustainability trends, standards and reporting frameworks;
    • prepare and deliver training on environmental permitting, legal requirements and sustainability topics;
    •  

    • Manage key stakeholder relationships with SHE department, Estates team and wider Brett Business Managers.

     

     

    What we’re looking for

    • Some knowledge of Environment or Sustainability management with a strong desire to build a career in this field
    • Environment or Sustainability related degree or IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or similar would be desirable but not essential.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with an understanding for liaising with key stakeholders internally and externally .
    • Enthusiasm, flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.
    • Analytical thinking with the ability to make decisions evidenced by data.
    • Excellent planning and organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Understanding and working with bespoke IT systems, software and specialist databases and automatic monitoring systems and general computer Literacy, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
